 More Human Than Human
The Measure of All Things: Greek Art and the Human Figure

Questions and Topics for Your Blog Posting:

1. Explain why you selected the video you choose from the selection listed above.

I selected the video More Human Than Human  because after watching the first minute of it, I knew that I'd be interested in it. I usually watch a little bit of each video and then decide which one I want to write about and watch the entire video. I'm always interested in the human body and how body parts work, and what they look like. The other video I selected it because it related to the other required video. I thought it'd build depth onto my understanding that I already learned.

2. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

More Human Than
Ancient Greeks were obsessed with the human body and focused on showing it off. While some parts of the body were exaggerated to show them unrealistically for sensationalism, others were ignored and never drawn. Egyptians however, focused more on drawing body parts in their best state, rather than drawing them in an unrealistic state.

The Measure of All Things: Greek Art and Human Figure
This video talked a lot about how drawing the human figure influenced people to look at their body differently. Whether that can be good or bad, drawing the human figure made huge influence on we see and value our body.

3. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

The video focuses more heavily on exaggeration and moving away from realism, while in my opinion, the book talks much more heavily about realism. In The Measure of All Things, the video talked a lot about the same stuff that was included in the book.

4. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the readings and art concepts?
They add depth to this topic by provide lots of visuals to enforce the key concepts and teach how the exaggeration of body parts how a big role in the structure of how body parts today.

VIDEOS

Prairie Style (Frank Lloyd Wright)

Architecture: The Science of Design

Questions and Topics for Your Blog Posting:

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

I've never heard of the concept "prairie" until watching this video. It was very interesting to learn about landscapes, in particular flat landscapes. These homes are really cool. I would never want one personally, but it's still cool to learn about their history.

As for "Architecture: The Science of Design," I learned about how skyscrapers are built, and the type of technical problems that pose when building. Because of how overcrowded cities are, architects build up, rather than out. I also learned about how steal, wood and other materials are jammed into the ground (sometimes 60 meters down) to hold the entire weight of the building. I also learned about how wind sways buildings, even if you can't feel it too much. Sometimes buildings can sway 1 meter.

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?

The book was much more heavy with terms and definations, while the video gave a more in-depth look. I also love to see visuals, so that video helped a lot with that. Also the video talked a lot about the future and what type of buildings we can expect to see in the future.

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of Architecture?

I liked the films. They both weren't too boring and provided me with a lot of info the book did not provide. I really enjoyed the design video – I've always wondered how skyscrapers were made.

4. Why did you choose the films that you watched?

Honestly, I picked the first two videos you listed. I took a look at how long they were, too, and decided on these two.

PEER REVIEW

1. Blogs I reviewed: http://jayczuba.blogspot.com/
http://dana-art-yka.blogspot.com/

2. When looking at Project #1: (Elements and Principles), did you agree with the element or principle the artist listed with the images? Did you see other elements and principles in the images?

Jay did a great job establishing the elements and principles in each photo. His choices were creative, and since he shot most of them outside, there was pretty good lighting. Some of the images weren't things we see everyday, so I thought he was pretty creative. Yes, I did see other elements, too. Especially with his "proportion" picture, it used the value principle. Dana's images were good, too. She used color a lot. I particularly like the picture of the beer – I like beer.

3. When looking at Project #2: Were there any images in the Peer Blogs the same as your own? If yes, what were they? Where the reasons the image was selected the same or different as your own?

No there weren't, actually. Dana viewed Monet's exhibit, which I didn't. She used a lot of photos from that exhibit. Jay's choices were very interesting, sort of out of the box pieces of artwork that I really enjoyed.

4. Where there any images that your Peers selected that pique your interest now? If yes, what are they and what is your connection with them? What would you want to know about them?

Yes! I think Jay's images were very intriguing. I loved the "Voice of Space" image. My connection with them is just how creative and interesting they are. His choices had many different subjects and artistic elements in them.
5. What do you think about  the process of reading your peers reflection? Do you find this to be a valuable in your learning?

I like it! It gives us another set of eyes to compliment and critique our work. I think it is a valuable learning aspect.

6. Check your Blog and read comments posted by your Peers. Do you find their comments helpful?
I do find Gabrianna's comments helpful. She didn't critique my work, but her analysis supported what I was hoping people would understand.

VIDEOS

1. For each video list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

Through the eyes of a sculptor-
In this video I learned about how every stone has a certain smell. Also I learned how sculptors make measurements and all of the tools they can/will use.

Glass and ceramics-  I learned about glass and how it is produced, from the chemical makeup to the physical labor.

2. How do the videos relate to the readings in the text?
The videos have the same information as the readings, but the video has visuals of what is actually going on. I like that much better. It tough to imagine how class is made, but seeing it a whole different story.

3. What is your opinion of the films? How do they add depth to understanding of the topics: Sculpture, Installation, and Craft?

I liked the films a lot. They really went into great detail on the how this stuff is made, however, I think the sculpture one went into too much about his life. I would have liked less of that and just focused on his craft.
