Mod 5

1. Discuss what you thought about creating your logo.
I was very nervous. I'm terrible at any kind of art. It actually took me a really long time to do my sketches, I started over a few times. It took me awhile to even find an idea. I've made designs digitally, but never by hand.
2. Describe the process: creative thinking skills and ideas you used in the logo creation.
It was really hard for me to find an idea like I said earlier. I really like photography so I figured a camera would be a good place to start. My nickname among my friends is "Double D" so I thought that I'd incorporate that into my logo as well. I wanted to make it seem like I was taking a picture of my nickname, sort of like it's on my LCD screen.
3. What was the most important discovery you made in the creation of your logo?
I really ran into an issue with color, Cameras usually aren't colorful, but I have to fight through that and sort of create a camera that I wanted to make, despite the fact that it wasn't realistic.
4. What is the most important information you learned from watching the videos, powerpoint, and reading material  for this project? What is your opinion of the videos?
The most important thing I learned was aspects that make or break a logo. The video was really detailed and helped me in the construction of my logo.

Oil on canvas
100 x 84 inches (254 x 213.4 cm)

I particularly liked this artwork because it makes it seem like many different pieces makeup a person. Whether it's family, friends, hobbies, talents or interests – we are all have many factors that make us who we are.

NANCY RUBINS
(AMERICAN, 1952)

STAINLESS STEEL, ALUMINUM, MONOCHROME I, BUILT TO LIVE ANYWHERE, AT HOME HERE, 2010-2011

I love this piece of art because of how large it is. It also seems like time has stopped, mid-rotation. These canoes must weigh so much – it's pretty incredible that they're able to with stain Buffalo weather.

B)  ECHO, WOW AND FLUTTER, 2000

B) THE COMING STORM, 1878

"The Coming Storm" made a great impression on me because it makes me realize the amazing nature the God has created for us. The bright colors of the grass and trees are really, really gorgeous.

C) PEACEABLE KINGDOM, CA. 1848
Oil on canvas
23 7/8 x 31 7/8 inches (60.6 x 81 cm)
James G. Forsyth Fund, 1940

This painting makes want to ask a lot of questions. There's a leopard and a lion next to children. You would never want this to happen in the real world, however, maybe it's about having a peaceful Kingdom with all living organisms working together.

C) A VIE PAYSANNE (PEASANT LIFE), 1925
Oil on canvas
39 3/8 x 31 1/2 inches (100 x 80 cm)

This piece is extremely strange. I don't even know where to begin. I can't interpret it whatsoever, but it's extremely well done. It has so many subjects in this piece and really does a great job showing depth.

Mod 4

1. Discuss what you thought about creating the Value Scale and Color Wheel.

I have made color wheels before, but have never made a value scale. It was fun to mix the paints. I'm someone who usually really struggles with this kind of thing because I don't have patience. This exercise I did quite well with.

2. Which media did you enjoy working with the best and why?
I enjoyed working with the scanner. I don't ever use my scanner, so this gave me an opportunity to actually use it. I was then able to crop the picture down, resize and edit to make it look pretty good on the blog post.

3. What was the most important discovery in the creation of these studies?
Well, I'm not too knowledgeable about paint, so I ended up buying some cheap paint that really effected the look of my color wheel. I shouldn't have waited until the last minute to buy the paint – I should have researched I'd found a higher quality.

4. What is the most important information you learned from watching the videos for this project? What is your opinion of the videos?
This video was extremely helpful because I watched it before doing my color wheel. It helped guide me through the process and show me a what real color wheel is supposed to look like. I'm not always good with written directions, a video helped immensely.

Mod 3 Articles/Video

1)Describe Color and it's effects on emotions. Use the appropriate vocabulary of color in your posting

Color is a basic function of light. Light has a huge effect on our emotions, so does color.  We have a direct emotional response to color, but our responses are both based on culture and our own personal sense. For example, red and green are usually associated with Christmas. However, that's the same for people who don't believe in Christmas. Red can be associated with anger and love, while the color yellow can be associated with the sun and happiness.

2. What is a theoretical aspect of color that most intrigues/fascinates you? Why?

I think that the effect of color on our emotions is fascinating. Not only because there is a relationship, but the fact that everyone is different. I knew that people had favorite colors, but I didn't think certain colors could effect moods and make people anger or happy.

3. In the Color video, what made the biggest impact on you in regards to color and it's effects on emotions?

The entire video was interesting, but I loved how the video connected the dots for me between color and emotion. I knew we all had favorite colors, but I really liked how the video described why certain colors effect our emotions.

4. In the Feelings video, what made the biggest impact on you in regards to color and it's effects on emotions?

Goya's painting were extremely interesting in this video. He paints both happy and sad pieces and uses color at the forefront. His happy joyful paintings are very bright and colorful, his sad paintings are dark and gloomy, giving off a depression effect.

Mod 2

For each video and article list/discuss the key concepts you learned.

Carta video: This video talked much about the brain and the brain's basic functions and habits contribute to how we see art.

Philosophy or arts- This video dug deep into aesthetics and helped me farther understand beauty and art. The video also spoke in depth about the most influential people when it comes to the topic of aesthetics.

CNN article- This article uses Pablo Picasso to explain how some artists use illusions to trick our minds.

2. Which philosopher's theroy on aesthetics do you feel is most important? Be sure to mention the philosphers name, era (time in history), and contribution to the aesthetic theory in your response.

I feel that Plato’s theory is most important. Plato’s theory (4th Century) referred to beauty attracting people. Art has the ability to bring people from all parts of the world together. The beauty of art is almost irresistible to some. Aesthetics is the culmination the nature of beauty and how it works in art.

3. What do you think about Changeux and Ramachandran scientific view of aesthetics and art? What was the most interesting fact you discovered from each speakers lecture?

Both scientific views of aesthetics and art are very interesting. Mainly because of their view of how brain looks at certain shapes and colors. Ramachandran's view I found most interesting because the example about the black and white splotches and how our brain tries to make sense of it.

4. How do the videos and article relate to the readings in the text?

The videos and article are talking about the same subjects, but the videos and article dive in much deeper. Also, the alternative material made it much easier to understand. It's one thing to read a textbook, it's another thing to see images and audio in a video.

5. What is your opinion of the films and article? How do they add depth to understanding of the topics in your reading in the text?

I thought the one film was a little outdated. The one speaker was hard to understand. However, the other speakers that were interviewed helped immensely. You could tell their passion for the subject and it helped understand the material. The article was well organized and easy to read. I specifically liked the article's information on how our brain sees color contrast.
